COMPETITION HAIR & MAKEUP

Your team look, step by step. Follow the studio’s guides and tutorials to get ready for competition day.

Competition hair

Slicked-back bun

A center part and a smooth, secured bun. Use the studio’s reference photos alongside these steps.

  1. Part hair down the middle, using the middle of the nose as a guide.
  2. Use a spray bottle to mist hair with water.
  3. Squeeze hair gel into the palm of your hand, rub together and evenly distribute through the hair. The amount of gel will vary depending on hair length and thickness.
  4. Use a boar bristle brush to brush gel through the hair, smoothing bumps as you go and flattening down the sides.
  5. Gather hair into a ponytail and secure with an elastic. You may need to repeat the steps above to achieve a smooth, bump-free look.
  6. Carefully brush out the ponytail and add more water and gel.
  7. Twist the ponytail all the way down and start to wrap around the elastic to create a ‘cinnamon bun,’ pinning hair in place and applying hairspray as you go.
  8. Secure a hair net to the bun with hair pins; twist and wrap it around until tight.
  9. Finish with hairspray. Make sure all baby hairs and flyaways are slicked down.
